Doctor’s Questions About Your Egg Allergy Symptoms

The doctor will have a few questions about your reaction in order to assist you in determining if you have an egg allergy or other type of allergy.  Below are a few things your doctor may need to know.

  • Have you ever had a reaction before
  • When was your first reaction?
  • Do these reactions occur each time you eat eggs or a product with eggs as an ingredient?
  • What are your symptoms?  Did they start out mild and get worse?
  • How severe are your symptoms?  Did you go to the hospital first?
  • How soon did the symptoms start after consuming the eggs?
  • How long did the symptoms last?
  • Do the symptoms occur frequently?
  • Have you taken any over the counter antihistamines for the reaction or other medications?  Did it help?
  • Have you kept a list or diary of the foods that give you these reactions.
  • List all your medications and the dosage.  Some medications cause inflammation.   Inflammation can make your symptoms worse.  Discuss them with your doctor incase he/she wants to make a change.
  • Has anyone in your family had any allergic reactions to eggs or any other food allergies?
  • Have you ever had any rashes or allergic reactions to a Flu Shot or Tetanus Shot?
  • Do you have any allergic reactions to any other medications?
  • Have you ever been allergy tested?
  • Does anyone if your family have a history of allergies? 
  • Are any family members allergic to eggs or other foods that you are aware of?
