Eating at a sports bar requires a chef willing to work with you. They may have to cook something that’s not on the menu. Without that, you’re just having drinks with friends.
Remember most of the items will have eggs in them including any dressings that are mayonnaise based.
Suggestions
- Ask to speak with the head chef or cook directly
- Advise them you have an extreme egg allergy and it is necessary to cook your food separately in a newly cleaned space to avoid cross-contamination
- Ask about the bread to find out if your food will be on an eggless bread
- Discuss the dressings available, and ask if they have any dressings that are not mayonnaise based
- Hamburger is a good choice only if they can make it fresh without eggs
- Ask them to bring you a new bottle of ketchup or mustard or steak sauce to avoid cross-contamination
- French fries are not on the menu for you as they will be fried in the oil that they fry other egg-breaded items in
- Your side options are limited, so opt for a salad with oil and vinegar, or a baked potato with toppings like cheese or onions. You will need to ask if bacon bits are fried in the fryer to avoid cross-contamination.
- Sports Bars usually have carrots and celery, just remember to exclude any mayonnaise-based dressing
- If they only have bread with egg then opt to have the hamburger breadless, and ask for a nice steak sauce that doesn’t have egg in it. I choose A-1 original as it is egg free.
- Bacon is sometimes quick-fried in the same oil as other breaded items. Ask if the bacon can be cooked in a separate pan
- If they have broiled fish or broiled shrimp, that could be an option with garlic and butter
- Steak sometimes is on the menu. Ask them to broil it
- Bring your dressing with you from home and have a salad
- Make Ranch dressing at home using the seasoning mix, sour cream, and milk. Don’t add the mayonnaise. It tastes great and has fewer calories and fat than regular ranch dressing. Then you can have a salad or a dip for the carrots and celery
- Be aware Grilled wings are often partially cooked in a fryer first. Find out how they cook them
- If they are willing to work with you, tip the cook along with the wait staff
